Purpleheart

Purpleheart can be very purple in colour when freshly cut, but over time it darkens to a brown shade. I have a lot or it that I traded for a couple of mallets! It's tough, so if you are likely to bash your mallets about, purpleheart can take it.

Padauk is a vivid red in colour and can colour lacquer pink as it is applied. It goes a darker red with age.

Vera wood is another lesser known wood that has appeared. It has interesting straight grain.
